The International Short Film Festival of Cyprus (ISFFC) is the official international short film festival of Cyprus, organised and supported by The Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus in collaboration with the Rialto Theater. The ISFFC has as its main objective the promotion of cinematographic art by presenting a diverse showcase of short films from Cyprus and from around the globe. It presents work of talented filmmakers who successfully use creative cinematic language forms and effectively tell a story in a short film. An International Jury awards the best shorts in the National and International sections.

One of the primary concerns of the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus is to accentuate the independence of short films as an art form and to create a special environment and audience for them. The festival organizer’s aim is the proliferation of short film. The Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus is funding a substantial number of short films every year and is constantly encouraging and helping young and established filmmakers to produce films, create co-productions and develop liaisons with other filmmakers around the world. It is also supporting local filmmakers in showcasing their work globally by attending other International Film Festivals. The Rialto Theatre has a long and established relationship with numerous film and art events hosted in the city of Limassol.
The primary focus of the six/seven day festival in Limassol is its International Competition and National Competition. Fictional, animated shorts and documentaries up to a maximum of 25 minutes compete for the festival’s awards and prizes. The ISFFC’s jury for both sections is comprised each year by acclaimed and well known film professionals, academics and festival organizers from around the globe. By presenting an interesting variety of international short film productions, it offers its visitors a diverse forum and serves as a popular meeting point for filmmakers from both Cyprus and abroad.

The annually held national and international competitions do not distinguish between genres. Instead, all cinematic forms are invited to participate in the categories International Competition. In addition to the competition sections, the festival week provides an extensive range of special programmes and events that aim to educate and entertain. These include retrospectives, tributes to individual film makers and/or specific genres, children’s programmes, seminars, workshops, masterclasses and of course, parties. These programmes have a local or different regional focus each year.
